Vasant Panchami, also known as Basant Panchami, is a celebration of the Spring's arrival. Observed on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Hindu month Magha--typically falling in late January or early February--this auspicious occasion holds great significance. 

The celebration focuses on the worship of Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu divinity of education, learning, and the arts. Saraswati Puja, or ceremonial adoration of the goddess, is the centrepiece of Vasant Panchami celebrations. Devotees offer prayers, seek blessings, and decorate Saraswati idols with yellow flowers, which are considered auspicious for the occasion.

Yellow plays an important role in Vasant Panchami celebrations, representing the energy and vitality of spring. People dress in yellow, decorate their homes with yellow flowers, and make yellow-coloured desserts like saffron rice and sweetened rice pudding, also known as kesar halwa.
