Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, one of the prominent festivals in Punjab, marks the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last human guru of the Sikhs. Celebrated with grandeur by the Sikh community in India, Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti falls on January 17 this year. Born in Patna, Bihar, Guru Gobind Singh was declared the tenth guru of Sikhs at the age of nine on the day of Baisakhi in 1676.

The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb beheaded Guru Gobind Singh's father, Guru Tegh Bahadur. The birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, known as Takhat Shri Harimander Ji Patna Sahib, attracts devotees.
