As many as eight participants of an anti-mining agitation in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district were detained on Monday after they allegedly stopped the way of security personnel heading towards a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-former-mlc-balaram-patil-4-others-detained-for-obstructing-demolition-drive-in-navi-mumbai-23320587" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">police</a> station, officials said, reported the PTI.
According to the PTI, the residents of more than 70 tribal-dominated villages have been protesting in Todgatta village for over 250 days against six iron mines proposed at Surjagarh in Gadchiroli.
The Gadchiroli police in a statement said that a police station at Wangeturi on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border in Etapalli taluka here was proposed to be inaugurated on Monday, the news agency reported.
When police parties from Gatta along with C-60 teams, a special anti-Maoist commando force of Maharashtra, were going towards Wangeturi through Todgatta, the agitators stopped them from going ahead, the release said, as per the PTI.
Some 10-15 people pushed the police parties, it said.
The police have detained eight of those people, the release said, adding there was no use of any force by police.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/gadchiroli-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Gadchiroli</a> police claimed some locals complained to them that they were being forced to sit on the protest by Maoists.
The police have appealed to the people not to get influenced by Maoists and not to take law into their hands.
The police station is being opened in that area to end the Maoist menace and make people live without any fear, the release said.
Passenger detained for misbehaving with crew
Meanwhile, a passenger was detained by airport law enforcement authorities for misbehaving with the crew, said an official statement by Indigo Airline on Monday, the ANI reported on Monday.
The incident took place on flight 6E 556 en route to Bengaluru from Jaipur.
The passenger was under the influence of intoxication when he misbehaved, and despite repeated warnings, he continued to behave the same, the statement said.
The airline, however, did not disclose the identity of the accused but said that he has been handed over to the authorities and further legal action will be taken.
Issuing an apology letter, the airline wrote, "A passenger on flight 6E 556 from Jaipur to Bengaluru was intoxicated and misbehaved with the crew despite multiple warnings. The passenger was handed over to the local law enforcement authorities on arrival for further legal action. We regret the inconvenience caused to the other passengers," the ANI reported.
