The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/imd-predicts-light-to-moderate-rainfall-in-thane-mumbai-and-palghar-till-june-10-23352983" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India Meteorological Department (IMD)</a> on Saturday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days from June 8 to 12, reported the PTI.
Thunderstorms have been predicted for parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema.
Further, these places are also expected to witness gusty winds up to a speed of 40 km per hour (kmph), the IMD said.
"Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, south Maharashtra, Telangana, some parts of south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha and some more parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh today," said the Met department in a press release, according to the PTI.
The northern limit of the weather system is now passing through Harnai, Baramati, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram and Islampur.
The weather department noted that conditions are favourable for further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra and Telangana in the next two to three days, as per the PTI.
However, the cyclonic circulation over south Telangana and neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked, even as lower tropospheric southerly and south-westerly winds prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
IMD issues orange alert for five Kerala districts
With the Southwest <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-weather-update-rain-or-thunder-showers-likely-in-nagpur-till-june-5-23352518" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">monsoon</a> continuing to dump rains in Kerala, the IMD on Saturday issued an 'orange alert' in five districts of the state predicting very heavy rains there, as per the PTI.
The southern district of Pathanamthitta and northern districts of Kozhikode Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod were placed under the orange alert for the day, according to the latest IMD update.
The weather agency also issued a 'yellow alert' for eight districts of the state, warning of heavy rains in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram.
A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rain of over 20 cm in 24 hours, while an orange alert means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm, and a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.
As heavy rains pose potential hazards, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised people to be vigilant.
Meanwhile, the shutters of Aruvikkara Dam in Thiruvananthapuram were raised by 25 cm on Saturday morning, district authorities said.
The shutters may be raised further in the coming hours and those living in the area should exercise caution, they added.&nbsp;
