After being shut for over 10-months, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express was finally up and running as it carried a total of about 1,600 passengers (both ways) on the first day of resuming services with COVID-19 protocols in place.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express will run for four days a week - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The train will have halts at Andheri, Borivli, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Nadiad.

Speaking to mid-day Rahul Himalian, group general manager of IRCTC's western zone said there are 14 key points that they abide by in addition to the Standard Operating Procedure, which is already in place.

"The 14 key points include fogging and disinfection inside train coaches at originating stations, sanitising passengers’ travel bags, thermal scanning, distribution of sanitisation kits at the time of boarding," Himalian said.

The trains are also cleaned continuously during the course of the journey. Thermal scanning, medical check-ups of staff, wearing facemasks, no exchange of seats, disinfection of vacated seats, cleaning of door and washroom handles are some of the measures undertaken by the railways to ensure protection against COVID-19.

Segmental bookings led to more number of passengers taking the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express train on Sunday.
