People were seen having a gala time by the shore as they dipped in the cool and salty sea water on Wednesday. Some had come along with their families and some with friends to cool off. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Maharashtra's Thane, Raigad districts, and parts of Mumbai from April 27 to 29. 

According to IMD scientist Sushma Nair, an anti-cyclonic circulation over these areas will contribute to the temperature surge, with peaks expected on April 27 and 28. This marks the second heatwave alert for Mumbai this month.

The previous heatwave hit Navi Mumbai hard, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius on April 15 and 16. 

The IMD advises people to take precautions, including avoiding prolonged exposure to heat, staying hydrated, wearing light-coloured and loose clothing, and scheduling strenuous activities during cooler times of the day.

A heatwave is declared when temperatures reach certain thresholds, depending on the region, with departures from normal also taken into account. Severe heatwaves occur when departures from normal temperatures are particularly high. 

Factors like El Nino and La Nina can influence weather patterns, with El Nino associated with weaker monsoon winds and drier conditions, while La Nina brings increased rainfall during the monsoon season.
