COVID-19 curbs in Mumbai: Day 1 ground report through the mid-day lens

After the Maharashtra Government announced stricter restrictions which came into effect from 8 pm, April 22, most Mumbaikars preferred to stay indoors. From Gateway of India in South Mumbai to Andheri in the suburbs, here's a look at what transpired in Mumbai on Day 1 of the fresh COVID restrictions in Maharashtra. On April 22, the Western and Central Railway also issued circulars stating that only essential workers will be allowed to use the Mumbai local trains. The restrictions, which came into effect from 8 pm on April 22 will be in place till 7 am on May 1. On Thursday, Mumbai reported 7,410 new COVID-19 cases and 75 deaths, the highest one-day fatality count since July last year.  Out of the 75 patients who died in the last 24 hours, six were below the age of 40, the BMC said.
