<p>In a piece of disheartening news for Mumbaikars, the petrol price on Saturday touched an all-time high of Rs 97 per litre, while diesel was being sold at Rs 88.06 in the country's financial capital.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Petrol and diesel prices continue to be on a rise in the city and across the country for the last 12 days. On Wednesday, petrol was sold for Rs 96 per litre, while diesel for Rs 87 on Thursday.</p>
<p>At present, petrol is sold at Rs 97 in Mumbai while it is Rs 90.58 a litre in Delhi. Similarly, diesel now comes for Rs 80.97 a litre in the national capital while it costs Rs 88.06 in Mumbai. The last time petrol price crossed the Rs 90-mark was in 2018 when it was sold at Rs 91.34 per litre.</p>
<p>Speaking to the <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/mumbai-news/petrol-price-reaches-all-time-high-of-rs-97-in-mumbai-101613804101665.html"><span style="color: #e03e2d;">Hindustan Times</span></a>, Bal Malkit Singh, chairman, the All-India Motor Transport Congress, called for an immediate reduction of diesel prices by bringing down central taxes. "The central government should issue an advisory to states to cut down Value Added Tax and bring uniformity in diesel prices across the country," he said.</p>
<p>Singh said that they have given a 14-day notice to the Centre for implementation of their demands from February 16. "If demands are not met, we will have no option else but to suspend road transport services across the country," he added.</p>
<p>Interestingly, petrol prices have touched Rs 100 a litre in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the two stated that levy the highest VAT on the fuel.</p>
