Trust some bureaucrats to hurry up work to please citizens, and then, even get the shoddily done job repaired almost as quickly. In a good example of this, part of the Kherwadi flyover that was damaged in the rains, was repaired quickly.

The northern arm of the Rs 22 crore Kherwadi flyover that was completed in a mere 171 days and was thrown open in April this year, had started developing an uneven surface, and in order to avoid criticism, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials got it patched up.

It should be noted that the northern arm of the flyover was inaugurated by Chief Mnister Devendra Fadnavis on April 19, 2015. The southern arm of the Kherwadi flyover was inaugurated in June 2014 by the then chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
The north-bound arm of the Kherwadi flyover started developing an uneven surface after just a few spells of rain, and this could have led to slow traffic movement. MMRDA might also have had to face criticism, so in order to avoid it, officials asked the concerned contractor to repair any potholes, and uneven surface.
The MMRDA contractor has put a patch of tar on the uneven surface. It can be seen when one takes the flyover while travelling from Bandra to Andheri. The original tar surface had started coming off just after few spells of rain and few small potholes had also developed.
A motorist Imran Shaikh said, &ldquo;It seems that substandard quality material might have been used for the flyover, or the potholes and uneven surface would not have occurred in less than 6 months of the opening of the north- bound lane of Kherwadi flyover. The patch work has been done to avoid any criticism, but a huge penalty should be levied on the contractor.&rdquo;
MMRDA speak MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawatkar said, &ldquo;The flyover is in the DLP and it is the job of the contractor to maintain the same.&rdquo;
