A 16-year-old <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/sobo-rape-cabbie-had-called-pal-to-assault-child-23310310" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">girl was allegedly raped at knifepoint</a> at her house in a slum in the eastern suburb of Mulund in Mumbai, the police said on Monday, reported the PTI.
According to the PTI, the police have arrested the 21-year-old accused for the crime that occurred on Sunday, while his accomplice is absconding, an official said.
The victim knew the accused and they lived in the same locality, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-school-security-guard-sentenced-to-5-years-ri-for-sexually-harassing-two-students-in-thane-23310924" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">police</a> official said.
The accused along with his friend allegedly entered the victim's house when she was alone and allegedly raped her at knifepoint and fled the scene, the official said.
The girl informed her parents when they returned home, following which a complaint was lodged, he said.
With the help of technical evidence, one of the accused was nabbed from Mulund within hours, while a hunt is on for another accused, he said.
A case under section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered, the official said.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a woman in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar in Mumbai has filed a harrowing complaint of alleged rape by her father-in-law, along with accusations of harassment by four other family members, according to local authorities.
According to the PTI report, following the complaint, the police registered a case on Saturday, invoking section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the woman's father-in-law. Additionally, an offence under relevant provisions of the IPC was filed against the four other family members accused of subjecting her to dowry-related harassment.
The woman's complaint details a deeply distressing ordeal, asserting that her father-in-law forcibly entered her room approximately two weeks ago when she was alone and allegedly raped her. Furthermore, she claims that she endured mental and physical abuse from her in-laws, spanning from February 2022 until June of this year.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities focusing on gathering evidence and conducting thorough interviews with all parties involved.
