MACT rejects accident claim of bus conductor's kin over name mismatch in documents
The Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has rejected a claim filed by the family of a bus conductor who died in a road accident in 2012, citing name mismatch of the deceased in the FIR and the claim documents. MACT Chairman Abhay J Mantri in the order passed on August 10, a copy of which was made available on Thursday, held that the claimants have failed to prove the name of the deceased and to show they are his legal representatives.

377 new COVID-19 cases in Thane; active tally up at 2,285
As many as 377 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its infection count to 7,39,777. With the addition of the latest cases on Wednesday, the district currently has 2,285 active COVID-19 cases, as against 2,131 the previous day. (PTI)

Maharashtra: Man immolates himself after stabbing mother-in-law to death
A 35-year-old man set himself on afire and died after allegedly stabbing his mother-in-law to death in Maharashtra's Latur district, police told PTI on Wednesday. His seven-year-old son was also injured during the incident which took place at Veer-Hanmantwadi village near Latur city on Tuesday night. The woman died on the spot, said Assistant Police Inspector Srishailya Kolhe.
